I think you can play Scrabulous even if you don't do Facebook. Check their site @ Scrabulous.com (free). You don't have to play in real time, you can play through email, too, if you're busy. I used to play online in real time (free), but now I can't remember what site that was. Yahoo games says they have a free trial version:
